The fate of the erotic author

When people find out that I write erotic stories in addition to my main activity - writing essays, political and historical reportage - I am often met with sudden rejection or at least looked at askance.

Why is that?

I think there are two reasons.

Firstly, people believe that you have experienced or practiced everything you write about yourself. I often have this experience in chats with readers who ask me this directly and are often disappointed when I don't immediately drift off into a sex conversation with them.

On the other hand, eroticism is still something dirty in many people's minds, something you don't talk about, and this is then projected onto the writer of such stories. This is a fate that sex workers also suffer all the time.

An acquaintance once said to me: “I didn't know you were so obsessed with sex!”

“Why do you think that?” I asked him.

“Well, if you read your stories, you can imagine what you get up to!”

My answer was pretty short: “Oh, so you think every crime writer is a murderer?”

His expression spoke volumes and I continued: “You know, what we do is called fiction. You don't have to do everything yourself, you can imagine it and put it down on paper. You don't have to try everything out to be able to talk about it!”

“But why are you making up such smut? You could also write about normal sex!”

Now, of course, I interjected: “Okay, and what is normal sex for you? Her on the bottom, you on top and it's over after five minutes?”

“No, of course not!” He laughed a little miserably.

“So blow jobs are inside and pussy licking too?”

He became uncomfortable and just nodded.

“Good, so that's normal? Then what's not normal?” and I answered straight away: ”Anal, golden showers, group sex, bisexual?”

He nodded again and blushed.

“Well, I know quite a few people who wouldn't agree with your attitude, and you know that yourself, don't you? Have you never dreamed of pleasuring your wife's bottom? Have you really never wanted a threesome - you and two girls, possibly bi, so you can watch them for a bit?”

He said nothing more and I ended the discussion: “You see, the only difference is that I admit it and write about it because I know that a lot of people like reading about it.”

Why? I'll write about that next time.
