Warum verwende ich KI für meine Buchcover?

Die Gründe sind vielfältig.

Zum einen finde ich, dass ein Cover in irgendeiner Form mit dem Inhalt des Buches zu tun haben sollte. Es ist jedoch immer schwierig, ein halbwegs passendes Bild zu finden. Zwar gibt es viele hervorragende Fotos – auch auf kostenlosen Plattformen –, aber es kostet viel Zeit und ist selten wirklich befriedigend, eines zu entdecken, das zum Buch wirklich passt.

Zweitens fühle ich mich nie ganz wohl dabei, meine Bücher mit realen, lebenden Personen zu verknüpfen.

War das Model wirklich damit einverstanden, auf einem Buchcover über Gruppensex oder lesbische Liebe zu erscheinen? Aus irgendeinem Grund bin ich mit diesem Gedanken nie ganz im Reinen.

Drittens: Es bleibt nie bei einem Einzelfall. Wie oft habe ich meine Buchcovermotive plötzlich auf anderen Büchern wiedergefunden? Sehr häufig – und das ist auch wenig überraschend. Alle Nutzerinnen und Nutzer haben Zugriff auf dieselben Bilder der großen Plattformen, und manche davon werden häufiger verwendet, weil sie sich besonders gut als Cover eignen.

Seit einiger Zeit arbeite ich mit künstlicher Intelligenz. Beim Schreiben bringt sie mir kaum etwas. Für erotische Texte ist sie kaum hilfreich – ich nutze sie lediglich als eine Art Grammatikprüfer für meine englischen Übersetzungen. Die Algorithmen haben keinen Humor und sind sehr konservativ.

Anders sieht es bei der Bildgestaltung aus. Hier gibt es großartige Möglichkeiten. Nach viel Recherche, Herumprobieren und Fehlversuchen habe ich mich schließlich für den Bildgenerator von www.canva.com entschieden. Er bietet zahlreiche Stilrichtungen, eine große Designvielfalt – und ist zudem erschwinglich. Natürlich erlaubt Canva keine Nacktbilder – aber das stört mich nicht. In Zeiten, in denen sogenannte „Porn Hunter“ das Internet durchkämmen, ist es ohnehin nicht ratsam, allzu freizügige Bilder zu veröffentlichen – auch wenn es Plattformen gibt, die das tun.

Ich möchte aber, dass meine Seite geschmackvoll bleibt – und da reicht Canvas Angebot für mich vollkommen aus.

Mir ist es wichtig, mit selbst gestalteten Bildern eine Verbindung zum Inhalt herstellen zu können. Auf diese Weise hoffe ich, die Neugier und das Interesse der Leserinnen und Leser zu wecken. Außerdem finde ich es sehr reizvoll, meine Hauptfiguren oder bestimmte Szenen auf dem Cover so darzustellen, wie ich sie mir vorstelle.

Natürlich stehe ich mit dieser Arbeit noch ganz am Anfang und bitte um Nachsicht, wenn manches noch nicht so professionell aussieht, wie es sollte. Aber ich arbeite daran – und die Plattformen entwickeln sich ebenfalls ständig weiter.

Ich bin außerdem der Meinung, dass man sich neuen Entwicklungen nicht verschließen sollte – sondern sie dort einsetzen kann, wo sie sinnvoll oder zumindest unterhaltsam sind.

For my book covers, why do I use AI?

The reasons are various.

For one thing, I believe the cover should have some sort of connection to the content, thus it's always difficult to locate a halfway-suitable image for a book. Although there are many excellent photos available, even on free platforms, it can take a long time and is rarely very fulfilling to discover one that truly fits the book.

Second, I'm never comfortable connecting my books to actual, living people.

Was the model truly interested in being featured on a book cover about group sex or lesbian love? I'm never fully at ease with that, for some reason. Third, you never have a one-off. How many times have I found pictures of my books on other authors' covers? Very frequently, and it's also pretty obvious—all users can access the photos on the major platforms, and some are used more frequently than others because they make better cover photos. For a while now, I have been working with artificial intelligence. Writing barely benefits from it. It's barely helpful for erotic texts, and I just use it as a grammatical checker for my English translations. The algorithms lack humor and are very conservative.

The situation is different when it comes to image design. There are great options here, and after a lot of searching and trial and error, I decided to use the image generator from www.canva.com. It offers numerous styles, a large variety of designs and is affordable. Of course, it doesn't allow nude images, but I don't really care about that anyway. In times when porn hunters are wreaking havoc on the Internet, it is not advisable to create overly revealing images, although there are of course platforms who do. Nevertheless, I want my site to remain tasteful, so Canva's offerings are more than enough for me. It's important for me to be able to create a link to the content using images I've designed myself. In this way, I hope to arouse the reader's curiosity and interest. I also find it very appealing to depict my main characters or certain scenes on the cover as they look in my imagination.

Of course, I'm only just starting out and ask for your understanding if some things don't look as professional as they should. But I'm working on it and the platforms are constantly improving their skills. I also think that you shouldn't close your mind to new developments and use them where they make sense or are at least entertaining.
